Ecological Restoration in Cuba 2025

Overview

The Ecological Restoration in Cuba program is designed to provide you with first-hand experience in Cuba's diverse ecosystems, from lush forests to the coral reefs of Playa Larga (with an optional scuba diving course!). You will gain practical insights into conservation while immersing yourself in Cuban culture. Challenge your perspectives and return with lasting memories and a deeper connection to the environment. Knowledge of the Spanish language is not a requirement for this trip.

Course Objectives

• To introduce students to some of the conservation challenges faced by our planet, taking Cuba as our field case study.
• To become aware of our responsibility in caring for the environment and of the many ways in which we can make a positive impact.
• To understand the processes involving the spreading of invasive species and its consequences on biodiversity loss.
• To help local biologists in their efforts to conservation of biodiversity
• To understand the complexity and fragility of coral reefs, nature’s most endangered ecosystems, by actively participating in the restoration of Playa Larga's reef (optional with the diving course)
• To interact with locals, sharing some of the conservation ideas and techniques
